What Are THC-A Strains?

There are more than 100 different cannabinoids sourced from cannabis plants, but THC is by far the most widely known and researched. This is largely due to its psychoactive properties and diverse consumption methods. However, without its forbear THC-A, THC would not exist. Carolina Hemp Cabinet has all the cannabis products for all your needs. In this post, we shed more light on THC-A, how it differs from THC and the THC-A strains we stock. Dig in!

What Is THC-A?

Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, or THC-A, is the acidic form or precursor of THC. As a cannabis plant develops, it starts producing terpene and cannabinoids. The cannabinoids develop first in the form of carboxylic acids that convert into non-acidic compounds in a process known as decarboxylation. CBGA is typically the first cannabinoid that a cannabis plant develops. It is known as the “mother of all cannabinoids” because it later breaks down to produce the main cannabinoids, like CBDA and THC-A.

THC-A flower does not have an intoxicating effect. This is because its chemical makeup includes an extra molecular carboxyl ring, which hinders it from binding to brain receptors to produce a “high” feeling.

This extra ring in THC-A does seem to hinder many consumers who wish to experience the benefits of regular THC products. But without THC-A, you can forget about THC and all its health benefits. When THC-A is heated, for instance, it’s consumed through a vape pen or used in a recipe that requires baking, and you end up with the potent stuff, THC.

How Is THC-A Different From THC?

The main way THC-A and THC differ is that THC-A does not have the intoxicating effect commonly associated with the latter. However, to create THC, THC-A has to be heated. The conversion changes THC’s molecular structure by eliminating its carboxylic ring. Without the ring, THC easily binds to the brain’s CB1 receptors, leaving you with the familiar feelings of THC.

In terms of effects, THC and THC-A could overlap each other in some aspects. While both are capable of helping with an upset stomach, THC-A is more promising when it comes to dealing with soreness and tenderness around the body. On the other hand, since THC-A does not have intoxicating effects, some could find it less effective for sleep compared to the more potent THC.

While marijuana is still not legal in North Carolina for recreational or medical use, CBD and hemp products containing less than 0.3% THC by weight are still legal for consumer consumption.

What THC-A to Try From Carolina Hemp Cabinet

All cannabis products must be tested at third-party labs before being sold to the public to ensure they comply with the set regulations. Knowing a product’s THC or THC-A levels helps you determine its potency and the kind of experience to expect.

We offer a full breakdown of all of our products of not only their THC-A levels, but we also disclose all other cannabinoids in our products as well. Unless you are after edibles, you should look for high THC-A content rather than THC. THC-A typically represents the potency potential of the cannabis product you are about to dab, vape, or smoke.
